چکیده

Direct ultrasonic velocity measurements have been made in fresh eollagen threads from mammalian tendon at a frequency of 100 MHz using the scanning laser acoustic microscope. Tendon is of interest since it contains an unusually large amount of collagen, a structural protein thought to be important to the echographic visualizability of normal and pathologic tissues in medical ultrasound. Results indicate that ultrasonic velocity is appreciably higher than in soft tissues, lending support to the view that tendon, as well as collagen, is markedly distinguished ultrasonically from other biological tissues.

Ultrasonics propagation properties of collagen.

Ultrasonic absorption measurements in the range 0.5--56 MHz, and measurements of velocity at 8.87 MHz, were made in collagen suspensions in which molecular integrity was preserved, in a range of concentrations 0.07--0.7% by weight, at 10 and 20 degrees C. Absorption and velocity values, per unit concentration, exhibited by collagen are much greater in magnitude than those exhibited by globular ...

Measurement of ultrasonic velocity in several biological tissues.

-The ultrasonic velocity at 100MHz and room temperature (23-26°C) was measured in fresh, excised mammalian liver, kidney, spleen, and pancreas and mouse kidney. The results show excellent agreement with measurements at low MHz frequencies. A significant velocity difference is reported between kidney cortex and medulla, but no difference was observed between the exocrine and islets of Langerhans...

Measurement and Modelling of the Rubber Resilience based on Ultrasonic Non-destructive Testing in Tires

In tire industry, it is very crucial to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of the rubber which is used for production of the tire, to ensure the quality of the final product. Resilience is an important property of a rubber, which cannot be evaluated through direct measurement in production cycle in this industry. Therefore, non-destructive ultrasonic testing, which has been used in man...

Dependence of the ultrasonic scatter coefficient on collagen concentration in mammalian tissues.

The difference between literature values of ultrasonic attenuation and absorption coefficients, defined as the scatter coefficient, was related to percent wet weight collagen concentration for brain, heart, liver, kidney, and tendon, in the range of 0.7 to 7 MHz. The comparison shows that as the ultrasonic frequency increases, the scatter coefficient increases, and the dependence of scattering ...

Process Monitoring Using Optical Ultrasonic Wave Detection

Certain microstructural features of materials, such as grain size in metals, porosity in ceramics, and structural phase compositions, are important for determining mechanical properties. Many of these microstructural features have been characterized by ultrasonic wave propagation measurements, such as wave velocity and attenuation. Real-time monitoring of ultrasonic wave propagation during the ...
